Natasi
Natasi L'Selyn is a half-Fayl'Idayn and Half-Human adventurer and mercenary by trade from Chawoven in Kalesten.
Appearance
Height: 5’6” (168cm) Weight: 130lbs (59kg) Build: Medium Hair Color: Black Eye Color: Green Skin Color: Light tan
The traits of Natasi’s mixed heritage are apparent in her long, tapered ears, though they are half the length of her Fayl’Idayn mother’s ears. She has pierced them both three times, up from the lobe, with a cuff on the tip of the right ear. Her facial features are a mix of the delicate Idayn features of her mother and the sharp features of her human father. She has an oval face with a defined jawline, high cheekbones, and a delicate chin set upon a long neck. She has a more delicate version of her father's nose with a high bridge, but a slight upturn at the end from her mother. Her lips are shapely and well-suited to her face Her skin is lighter than her father's bronzed complexion, but tans easily, and is often marked by faint freckling over her nose and cheeks when her tan fades. She has her mother's vivid green eyes and narrow, black arched eyebrows.
She inherited her black hair color from her father. Her hair is grown long, falling to mid-back, and usually kept pulled back in a high ponytail or braid.
Natasi is a little taller than the average woman, owing most of that height to her long legs. She has a naturally pear-shaped figure with somewhat wide hips, a narrow waist and narrow shoulders with a moderately sized bust, but is lean and athletic from her constant training and lifestyle.
Background
Natasi is the result of the love of a Fayl’Idayn woman for a human man. Her mother, Selyn L'Aril, was a young Fayl’Idayn who had set out of the Ardir on a customary coming-of-age journey, and her father, Rayden was working as a hired sword to see more of the world. The two met in Chegar, where Rayden had stepped in to protect Selyn from some unsavory fellows. After that, she asked him to be her guide, which he readily accepted, and set out to show her more of Kalesten, which eventually brought him back to his rural hometown of Chavese in Chawoven. Over the course of their travels, the two had fallen in love and Selyn had become pregnant with Natasi. They decided to marry and Rayden poured his earnings into purchasing a plot of land and building them a home. It was here that Natasi was born.
Natasi attended the schoolhouse in the village to earn a basic education, and her mother tried to teach her the ways of people. Her ears always set her apart from her peers, whether the other children found them fascinating or intimidating. It brought her a lot of trouble in her youth, so she took to fighting when her heritage or family were insulted. Soon enough, the other children learned to respect Natasi under pain of a solid whooping.
When Natasi was ten, her little brother Siph was born, but Selyn was beginning to grow tired of living amongst humans and wanted to return home. Rayden offered to arrange a trip to the Ardir when Siph was older, but he was wary of entering the newly founded Kalestine Empire and didn’t know if they had the money to afford the supplies they needed. Selyn begrudgingly accepted this, but her bitterness and homesickness would grow in the years to come, finally culminating when Natasi was fifteen and Siph was five. The couple fought often, Rayden pointing out all the reasons why the trip was impractical, and Selyn firing back with all the reasons why it was necessary for her happiness and their children’s wellbeing. In the end, Selyn decided to leave and take the children, but Natasi refused to leave her father. Selyn could only manage to take Siph with her, even though Rayden protested.
Selyn left Awden, heading eastward, and Rayden and Natasi never heard from her again. Natasi always assumed her mother had made it back to her homeland, but she decided that she didn’t want much to do with her mother after the way she left. While in Fayl’Idayn tradition, her mother had given her the name L’Selyn to mark her as her daughter, Natasi abandoned her mother’s name and instead uses her father’s human surname Chavese.
At the age of sixteen, Natasi had well enough moved on with her life. She and her father worked together on the crops, he educated her in sword fighting and archery from his days as a mercenary. Natasi’s future was on her father’s mind and he tried to breech the topic from time to time, but Natasi didn’t know which path to take. Many of her peers were being matched for marriage, but Natasi’s mixed heritage and tomboyish ways didn’t endear her much to potential suitors for all her good looks. The military was another option, as Chawoven’s military was co-ed, but Natasi didn’t feel exceptional loyalty to Chawoven, even with Kalestine looming in the distance. The truth was, she felt more drawn to the life her father had lived before he married Selyn, having been regaled with stories of adventure alongside the fire on many nights. Eventually, Rayden began encouraging Natasi to join the military, knowing that his girl couldn’t just settle for being a housewife, but he refused to acknowledge her interest in becoming a mercenary.
When Natasi was eighteen, she gave into her father and decided to join the military. She was shipped off to Ingusto for training where she joined patriotic young men and women who were willing to put their lives on the line against the Kalestine Empire. After a few months in training, the patriotism began to wear on her nerves and she realized that she simply wasn’t a patriot at all. She was a “half-elf”, an oddity who didn’t really belong to any nation, but to all of the world itself. Natasi abandoned her military training and headed over to the Mercenaries’ Guild instead. With the mention of her father’s name, she was able to earn approval quickly, and soon enough, she was a citizen of the world, traveling from city to city and nation to nation as a guard of merchants and slayer of Kuzo.
