Half-Zaedyn
The Zaedyn are an amicable and open people, but isolated in their mountaintop aeries. This openness allows for relationships with individuals of other races when the opportunity presents itself. However, their wings prove to complicate bearing children in these relationships. In most cases of half-Zaedyn, they are born to committed parents who wanted to have children and tried for many years, suffering miscarriages and stillbirths before one successful, viable pregnancy produces the child in question. Pairings with other elemental races tend to have the most success in bearing children.
Humans, Idayn, Ochae’nafod, and Dra’nafod are partners most often chosen in these rare situations. Brech'mar are a rare choice, while they are often close, they have different standards of beauty and rarely find each other attractive.
Physical Traits
The most notable trait of the Zaedyn, their wings, is never inherited to its full glory in interracial offspring. Some individuals may have small useless wings, while others have horribly deformed wings, and yet others have a mismatched pair with a small healthy wing and a deformed wing. If the wings are deformed, many parents may opt to have them surgically removed, though small but well-shaped wings are often left alone. In cases of a mismatched healthy and deformed pair, parents may opt to remove the deformed wing and leave a single healthy small wing. Those born with a healthy pair of wings will never be able to fly on them, as the wing span is around only four feet wide.
Zaedyn have a wide variety of coloration depending on where they are from, so the coloration of a half-Zaedyn is dependent on the phenotypes of both parents. Ears will be half-length from a full-blooded Zaedyn if born to a human parent, but full length if born to another elemental race. They are also more likely to be slim and fine-boned, but still denser than a Zaedyn.
Magical Abilities
A child born to a Zaedyn mother will have an ability for Air elementalism, as the child will be incarnated with a Sylph soul. If the father is Zaedyn, the offspring will not inherit air elementalism.
Lifespan
Born to a human and Zaedyn, an interracial child will live half the lifespan of a Zaedyn; approximately 250 years. Mixed with another race, a half-Zaedyn’s lifespan would be the median between the average of both races.
