Wings

Gods and certain higher beings, such as demons and angels possess wings, but not specifically for flight, though they can serve that purpose. The primary purpose of wings is a reservoir of spiritual power that can be used to fuel divine magics.

The Zaedyn are the only mortal race to possess wings, but these are purely for the purposes of flight. Dragons as well do not present wings as anything other than appendages for flight.

Number

The amount of wings a god can possess ranges from two to six, and these correspond with their magical strength. The original pair will emerge from mid-back, beneath the shoulder-blades, and second from between the spine and shoulder-blades, and tertiary pair from the lower back, beneath the rib-cage. Both Orran'sulani and Nydoini possessed six wings each, their first generation inherited only four, but this may have been the result of Nydoini intentionally reducing their power to maintain her and her husband's positions in the hierarchy--despite this, Ispa still slew Orran'sulani and gained his power, thereby sprouting a third pair of wings and gaining his strength in addition to her own. Nydoini would later sacrifice herself for Idraen to do the same, therefore ending the conflict.

The younger gods typically only possess two wings, which is the result of the close relation of their parents, or the weakness of one, in the case of demigods like Suldra and Casril.

Appearance

Divine wings can vary vastly in appearance and are often a reflection of the owner's personality and alignment. Angels typically have white, plumed wings, while most demons have leathery bat-like wings (except for Demons of Greed, which have raven-like wings).

Mortals who ascend develop wings, but these only appear on higher planes, not the material plane, though they can be physically felt by those who possess them and others of enough sensitivity.
