Wind-Carvers
Wind-Carvers are a specialized class of artisans in Zaedyn society that use their Air Elementalism to carve aeries out of mountains. These architects spend many years in apprenticeship to master architects to learn the unique application of elementalism that builds and maintains their cities.
As the Zaedyn prefer to make their homes on mountain peaks, far above the treeline, they must carve their homes from stone. Their air elementalism erodes the rock in precise, controlled, and sustained high pressure currents, often employing gravel and sand from the project as an abrasive. Many newer Zaedyn cities are carved into the mountain face, but more ancient cities gradually drill inward. Some of the grandest and most ancient aeries fill the entire peak and turn the mountaintop into a feat of architectural engineering and art.
The techniques used by Wind-Carvers require a great amount of magical power and skill that can take many years to even become moderately skilled at. As well as the specific magical practices, Wind-Carvers must also be geologists; knowing the different kinds of rock, the anatomy of their mountain, and how to create both a stable, safe home while maintaining the integrity of the mountain itself. Along with building the structures that their people need to live in, Wind-Carvers must also consider the effects of snow and glaciers, both in providing water for their community, and not disturbing the natural processes for the land below.
