Opossum
The North Kalesten Opossum is a marsupial mammal found throughout the temperate and subtropical regions of North Kalesten. These shy, plodding gray creatures are the size of large rodents and generally harmless. They have an omnivorous diet, eating insects, small animals, fruit, and scavenging. Typically solitary and nocturnal, they can be found in the wild and in urban areas, usually retreating to places where there is dense vegetation for cover.
Impacts
There is an Ochae'nafod tribe bonded to the opossum, the Didelphi. Clans can be found in the Ardir and remote forested regions between the east coast and edge of the Perdrasers and Gayntos regions.
Humans will hunt and eat opossums. Some regard them as pests, while others are aware of their benefit, or otherwise neutral. Most farmers appreciate them for eating insects, mice, and other small pests, but they can cause damage to domestic fowl rookeries and get into food storage themselves.
Kalesten Kuzo readily hunt and eat opossums, but also have a respect for them in their shamanistic traditions.
Meta
This species is the resurrection of the Virginia Opossum (Didelphis virginiana) that ranges across North America.
